Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson

Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson takes place on the eve of the American Revolution in New York City. Isabel and her five year old sister are slaves, they were promised freedom but when their master died they were sold to the Locktons.
The story weaves a historical facts and people into this story of survival, betrayal and strength.
The branding scene was harrowing and I kept rubbing my cheek to make sure there was nothing there!
The book is impossible to put down - I am almost done...
